Opening of a graduation ball - dancing couples on stage
Ball · Graduation ball · Krems & Lower Austria

A ball photographer who knows the opening -
and the hours after it.

A ball has a running order that doesn't repeat: entrance, opening, midnight performance. Knowing the order means standing in the right place beforehand - instead of searching afterwards.

The evening

What has to be photographed at a ball

These moments happen exactly once. That's why they're in the plan beforehand, not left to the evening's discretion.

Reception & entrance

Guests arriving, guests of honour, the committee and the mood before the hall fills up.

The opening

The entrance of the dancing couples and the choreography - the most important item on the programme and the one with the hardest light.

Guests of honour & sponsors

Management, parents' association, sponsors and partners from your list. Whoever is missing here is missing from the report later.

Midnight performance

Usually the most elaborate number of the evening - and the most shared.

Guests & groups

Groups of friends, tables, the dance floor. The images your guests will look for themselves.

Atmosphere until the end

Bar, disco, crowd - the part that shows the evening worked.

Technique

Ballrooms are dark. That's a craft problem, not fate.

Stage lighting changes colour and intensity by the second, the audience sits in darkness, and a flash on the dance floor destroys exactly the atmosphere you decorated the hall for. I work with fast lenses and largely without flash - and where flash is needed, indirectly and sparingly. The result looks like a ballroom, not a press conference.

Speed

The first images while the ball is still the talk of the town

A graduation ball lives on social media for three days - then it's over. So on request there's a first selection of the key moments the next morning, edited and ready to publish. The full gallery follows afterwards.

A real case

"007 - Signing Out", HAK/HAS Krems

Graduation ball of BHAK/BHAS Krems with opening, midnight performance and the ball night through to the end. 172 edited images were delivered as a complete gallery.

Starting situation
A graduation ball with a full programme in a large hall: the evening had to be documented completely - committee, opening, guests of honour and the atmosphere - without the camera disturbing the celebration.
Plan
Agreed in advance: the running order, who enters for the opening, which guests of honour had to be photographed by name, and when the midnight performance starts. Positions for the entrance and stage were fixed beforehand.
Execution
Continuous reportage across the whole evening, largely without flash. Stage programme from fixed positions, guests and dance floor covered on the move.
Result
172 edited images in an online gallery with download rights for the school, the committee and the guests.
