I live in Rohrendorf near Krems - between the Danube, the loess terraces and the vineyards. Local knowledge here doesn't mean "I've been there once"; it means knowing when the light falls where, and where you'll stay dry when it rains.
The Wachau is beautiful - and logistically demanding
Steep vineyards, narrow village roads, riverbanks with limited parking and venues that look completely different in evening light than they did at ten in the morning. Someone who knows the region plans the day differently.
Light timing, not luck
The loess terraces above Rohrendorf and Krems get their warmest light in the last hour before sunset. I plan your schedule backwards from there.
Routes and buffers
In summer, the trip between the Krems registry office, the church and a venue in Dürnstein can easily take 40 minutes instead of 20. Those buffers go into the plan beforehand, not into an excuse afterwards.
Rain has a plan B
For every venue I check in advance where you can stand covered and still in good light - arcades, cellar lanes, press houses.
Drone where it's permitted
The Wachau is a UNESCO World Heritage site with clear rules. I fly EU-certified and insured - and clear permission in advance instead of arguing on site.

Krems an der Donau
Registry office, historic rectory and the old town lanes. Short distances, many settings in a small area - ideal when time is tight.
Rohrendorf & Kremstal
Loess terraces overlooking the vineyards. The best evening light in the region and winery venues with short walks.
Dürnstein
The blue church tower, the town wall and the terraces above the Danube. Touristy in summer - which is why I plan for early morning or golden hour.
Mühlbach am Manhartsberg
A quiet village wedding away from the tourist flow, with plenty of green and no crowds. A full case study is in the magazine.
Sirine & Tunahan - Krems and Vienna in one day
A civil ceremony in Krems, the big celebration a week later - the wedding day itself ran from Krems to Vienna. Both full galleries were delivered, with the first preview going out within 48 hours.
- Starting situation
- Two dates, two locations, two very different moods: the compact ceremony in Krems and the large celebration with the drive to Vienna. What mattered to the couple was that both should look like one connected story rather than two separate shoots.
- Plan
- Beforehand we talked through the schedule for both days, settled the family groups for the congratulations and built the Krems–Vienna travel time in with a buffer. For the ceremony one thing was clear: no flash in the room, work quietly.
- Execution
- In Krems: arrival, ceremony, congratulations, group photos from the list and a short couple shoot in the old town. On the wedding day, the journey to Vienna and the celebration - over 300 edited images across both dates.
- Result
- Two complete online galleries with download rights, first preview within 48 hours, full delivery within the promised window.
